Countertops
Today's countertop market is full of a myriad options of different materials from different manufacturers. It is next to impossible to educate yourself as to all the options out there, but we're pleased to break down the 4 major categories.
High pressure laminate
This is the most common material used in kitchens. It is durable, available in many colours, can have postform edging applied, and is generally recognized as being the least expensive material to make your countertops with. Arborite and Formica are common names you have heard in regards to laminate tops.
Solid surface
The most common name in this category is Corian®, but there are many other manufacturers out there. For a kitchen surface, we always recommend that you choose a product that is made out of acrylic resin.
Natural Stone
There are innumerable stones available today; granites, marbles, limestones, and other much more exotic stones from all over the world. Today there are many finishes available, from high gloss polished, to honed, to wire brushed, to leather or flamed finishes.
Engineered stone.
Again, there are many different manufactures of quartz countertops, all of whom will claim their product is better than the others. Reality is, in our experience all quartz countertops perform the same as each other. The only real difference is colour. Some quartz products are made from recycled materials.
Boutique items
There are many, many other surfaces that you can use for countertops - some common choices are stainless steel, butcher block, glass, etc. We would be pleased to discuss some of the more atypical surfaces with you at your convenience.
